As an Australian sofa store providing a wide selection of sofas, couches and more, we at Hybreeze get a lot of questions from buyers. This can range from simple cleaning tips to opinions on styling and cultivating a space around the new furnishings. We absolutely love being a part of the process for those reinventing their home’s relaxation spaces, and so, we thought it would be a fun idea to take to our blog and answer a few of these frequently asked sofa questions for all to read.
This little FAQ will be slightly scattershot, targeting some of the most common questions we here at Hybreeze get about sofa care, sofa styling, and more. So, let’s get into it!
What Colours Go With a Grey Sofa?
There are many colours that are going to go with a grey sofa, thanks to it being a very neutral tone that is unlikely to clash with many other colours or shades. With that said, in our experience, there are two directions you can go to really make a grey sofa pop.
1. Vibrant Colours With a Grey Sofa
Consider the colour of your grey sofa as the perfect backdrop to an array of brighter, more vibrant colours. One big benefit of greys and other softer tones is that they rarely take focus away from the other, brighter elements in a room. So whether you’re planning for a nice rug, or just some throw pillows to go on top, bright reds, blues, yellows, and even pinks can be just what the doctor ordered.
2. Neutral Tones With a Grey Sofa
If, on the other hand, you want to be a little more restrained, the more neutral tone of the grey makes it a fantastic accompaniment for other similarly natural and soft colours. Beiges, tans, creams; having a more minimal, clean style surrounding your grey sofa is sure to make a space feel very tasteful.
So, whether you prefer the bright and bubbly colours or the more subdued, simple style, you have a lot of options to choose from when figuring out which colours go with your new grey sofa. If you really can’t decide, try just experimenting with some splashes of colour, and see what works for you. We’re sure you’ll find something that you absolutely adore.
How Do You Mix and Match Pillows On a Sofa?
Knowing how to mix and match pillows on a new sofa can feel like you’ve unlocked a styling superpower, so we’re not surprised that we see this question pop up so often. While there are a lot of different methods that you can go with here, a simple trick that we find effective is to tell the story of your room through your pillows. In other words, pull three different colours from focal points in your room, such as your rug, your curtains, and a painting on the wall, for example. From there, you’ll have a solid base that you know will feel at home within the room that you’re styling them for.
You can then do the same for patterns, shapes, and more. Try different pattern style mixes, different textures, and also different pillow fill amounts. You’ll be surprised at just how much of an impact small changes like that can make on a room.
How Do I Stop Cats From Scratching My Sofa?
Whilst it is not exactly our field, knowing how to stop cats from scratching at a brand-new sofa is certainly something many of us have had to figure out over the years. We love cats, they are one of life’s great gifts, but when one decides your new couch is their new favourite scratching place, something needs to be done. The most important thing to do when getting a cat to stop scratching your new sofa is to provide them with a better option. This tends to come in the form of a scratching post, which will give them a way to get their scratching fix without taking things to your furniture.
With that said, it can still take some work to get your cat into the mindset that this post is where you are meant to scratch, so make sure to direct them over to it, and maybe even hide treats in and around it to keep their attention more directed toward the scratching post. Keep in mind through this that the cat isn’t being malicious when they scratch, and that scratching means a lot to your feline companion. It keeps their claws healthy, it’s a comforting emotional release, and it acts as exercise. Playing with your cat will also allow them to burn off a little of that energy, so be sure to get out the cat wand and get to work whenever you can.
